Jan
“STRAY CAT” Brookfield
 |
Jan Brookfield a.k.a. STRAY CAT
has been on the West Midlands line dance scene for around six
years now. One of the first fully qualified professional
instructors in the area, she has blazed a trail for numerous
other instructors, many of whom are former pupils.
“Keep it fun”
is her motto. Jan believes that line dancing should be
accessible for all ages and levels of fitness - you should not
need to have to be an athlete or a latin american ballroom
champion to get your head and feet around the dances !
|
Her training was with the B.W.D.A.
and she is proud to have qualified with Distinction as
one of their Instructors.
Jan is also making a name for herself as a
choreographer.
On the Beach
was a popular summer dance a couple of years ago, and last year her
dance to Tom Jones’ Sex Bomb was just as big a hit on the
dance floor as it was for Tom in the charts. Her Cowboy Dance
has been used in various competitions at home and abroad, and
Blue Memory, to a song of the same name by a band called Plain
Loco, has become another favourite with the dancers. Last year saw
success with Pretty Cool, and I Feel a Heartache. In
less than a year, four of Jan’s dances appeared in The Linedancer
Magazine. With the success of the film Billy Elliott, Jan’s dance
The Billy Boogie has risen high in the ratings, and Oops, my
halo! danced to “You are no angel” is also doing well.
Being EASY-RIDER’s line dancing side-kick,
it is hardly surprising that she has choreographed several dances to
the songs from their albums, not to mention co-writing some of their
songs.
EASY-RIDER
always listen to Jan’s advice on the latest dances and tempos to
keep their programme bang up to date. They often work alongside one
another at special events - together they
make a great team ! |
